How We Work
No matter what brings you to Embark we will treat you as a unique individual. You may require one component of our service, or a full suite of our services. Here are ways we can help you:
Getting Started
Comprehensive Mobility and Functional Assessments
Complete assessments of mobility, functional tasks, fitness levels, home environment, community access, and support networks.
Goal Setting
Establish goals that are meaningful to you and let this drive what we do for you.
Collaboration
We work with other people on your team such as allied health members, medical professionals, support workers and your loved ones.
The Specifics
Targeted Exercises
A personal favourite! This can include strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, fitness and agility exercises.
Fitness
These exercises improve your heart and lung health, and improve your ability to access community-based activities such as shopping, gardening, walking with your friends and lawn bowls.
Task-specific training
To improve a functional task it is important to work on that functional task. This can include getting out of bed, getting out a chair, getting in or out of the shower, walking and running to name a few.
Safe transfer and manual handling techniques
Training for you, your loved ones and carers on safe transfer and manual handling techniques.
Create a safe home environment
Remove trip and slip hazards, improve accessibility to home, find safer ways to set-up a task.
Education
Learn about your condition, how to prevent falls, what neuroplasticity is, how to maintain your physical health and other community services available.
Equipment
Recommendations and prescriptions of equipment as required, including wheelchairs, hoists, lower limb splints, walking and transfer aides. If equipment requirements are complex we may need to work with other allied health disciplines.
The Big Picture
Participation in community activities
We are here to help you find ways to participate in activities in the community that are of interest to you. This may require practicing that activity through one-on-one support, modifying the activity or linking you into a community support that already exists.
Community access
We are here to generate solutions to ensure access to community venues, local parks/beaches, public transport and cafes. Some tasks you may find difficult include getting on and off the bus or train, climbing stairs into a facility, safe entry in and out of the community pool, etc.
Active lifestyle
We want to help you commit to long-term changes that promote a healthy and active lifestyle to minimise fluctuations in your function.
