Ageing
Many ageing Australians enjoy an active lifestyle helping them to live a longer and healthier life. Age should not be a reason to stop doing the activities you love at home and in the community.
Did you know?
- Falls are not normal and are a sign that you need to work on your lower limb strength and balance.
- Reduced leg strength is the #1 reason older Australians move into aged care facilities.
- Walking aides when prescribed inappropriately can have a negative impact on your mobility and balance.
- Safe walking in the community requires that you are able to walk while you talk, look around, change directions and turn around.
Some of the things you may have trouble with:
- Using furniture or another person to help you get around your house
- Going up and/or down stairs
- Standing up from a chair
- Fear of falling, recent falls and/or almost falling
- Feeling breathless during everyday activities
- Completing chores around the house
- Participating in activities you enjoy
- Not getting out of the house as much
